Jarlet privacy policy

Effective [date of publication].

Jarlet is an iPhone and iPad app for saving the recipes, places, products and posts you find. This page explains what happens to your information.

The short version: what you save stays on your device. There is no account, no ads, no analytics and no tracking.

What stays on your device

Everything you save stays on your device: links, captions, screenshots, photos, PDFs and notes. So does everything Jarlet works out from them: titles, categories, recipe cards, and the text it reads in screenshots.

Jarlet reads your saves on your device. On devices with Apple Intelligence it uses Apple's on-device models; on every other device it uses built-in rules. We have no server that receives your saves, and we can't see them.

Reminders are notifications your device schedules by itself; nothing is sent to us or anyone else. The widgets and iPhone search (Spotlight) show a copy kept on your device. Search is given titles, kinds, folders and the short summary of a link, never the text read in a screenshot or the text of a note; you can turn it off in Settings → Apps → Jarlet → Siri & Search.

Your saves are kept in the app's own storage. They are included in your device's backups, such as iCloud Backup if you use it; Apple handles those.

In cook mode, if you turn on voice control, Jarlet listens through the microphone for a few words ("next", "back", "repeat", "ingredients"). They are understood on your device by Apple's speech model, which your device downloads from Apple once; nothing is recorded or sent. The microphone is off the rest of the time.

Your lists on Apple Watch go straight from your iPhone to your watch, and ticks come back the same way, through Apple's watch connection.

iCloud sync and shared lists (only if you turn them on)

iCloud sync is optional and off until you turn it on in Settings. With it on, your saves and their files are kept in your private iCloud database too, under your Apple Account, so your iPhone and iPad hold the same saves. Apple stores them; we can't see or reach them. To stop, turn sync off; to delete the copy in iCloud, go to Settings → [your name] → iCloud → Manage Storage → Jarlet.

Shared lists. When you share a list, its title and items are kept in your iCloud and shown to the people you invite, who can read and change them. You choose who, and you can stop sharing at any time. When someone shares a list with you, it is kept in their iCloud. Apple handles the sharing; we can't see the lists.

What leaves your device, and why

Link previews. When you save a link, your device asks that website for the page, and for its preview image or embed information, directly. It is the same as opening the link in a browser. The website sees your IP address and the request, under its own privacy policy. Nothing goes through us.

Purchases. Jarlet Pro is bought through Apple's App Store. Apple handles the payment, and we never see your payment details or your Apple Account. Apple's privacy policy applies.

Support emails. If you write to us, we receive your email address and your message. We use them only to answer you, and delete them within [12 months] of our last reply.

Photos

Jarlet asks for access to your photo library only if you choose to import screenshots. It looks only at screenshots, and copies into the app only the ones you choose. With "Limited" access you pick them yourself. Jarlet never uploads your photos. The one exception, once it exists, is Cloud reading, if you turn it on.

What we don't do

  • No account.
  • No ads.
  • No analytics or crash-reporting tools of our own. If you allow it in your device's Privacy settings, Apple shares anonymous crash reports and usage statistics with app developers; those come from Apple.
  • No tracking across apps or websites.
  • We don't sell or share your information.

Your choices and rights

  • Delete anything you saved, from the item's menu. Deleting the app deletes everything it stored on your device; copies in your backups follow Apple's backup rules.
  • With Jarlet Pro, export everything you saved from Settings, as JSON, Markdown and images.
  • We don't hold your saves, so there is nothing on our side to access, correct or delete. To see or delete your support emails, write to us.
  • If you live in the EU, EEA or UK, you can complain to your data protection authority. In Greece that is the Hellenic Data Protection Authority.

Children

Jarlet isn't directed at children, and we don't knowingly collect information from children.

Changes

If this policy changes, we'll update this page and the date at the top. If a change affects what leaves your device, the app will tell you before it happens.
